2012 Scholarship Program
PRESS RELEASE:
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ENCOURAGED
TO APPLY FOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund, a local philanthropic organization, is seeking ambitious, community minded high school seniors interested in pursuing their college dreams. To help make those dreams come true the Mahone Fund will award approximately ten deserving seniors with a one-year scholarship worth a minimum of a $1,000 through its Career Exploration Organization Youth Scholars program.
This scholarship opportunity is open to high school seniors from the Kenosha Unified School District, Shoreland Lutheran, and St. Joseph High School, who are preparing to enter a two-year or four-year accredited college or university. Ethnic minority students are encouraged to apply.
The Mahone Fund will award approximately ten scholarships for 2012. To be eligible for consideration, students must:

Be a Senior attending one of the following high schools: Mary D. Bradford, Tremper, Reuther Central, Indian Trail Academy, LakeView Technology Academy, Harborside Academy, Shoreland Lutheran, and St. Joseph High School.

Eligible for free or reduced meal benefit;

Have a minimum 2.5 GPA on an unweighted scale;

Have demonstrated leadership ability through participation in school and community extra-curricular activities;

Provide evidence of acceptance into an accredited college, university, or technical institution at the time of the award; Awards will not be granted to applicants without this notification from the accredited college, university, or technical institution.

Attend mandatory information meeting to be held at Mahone Middle School, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, if they are selected as a 2012 recipient of the Mahone Youth Scholars Award

Participate in the 2012 Reaching for Rainbows Pursuit of Excellence Gala, April 25, 2012, if selected as a 2012 recipient of the Mahone Youth Scholars Award
Scholarship applications are available at each school's guidance office, the Kenosha Community Foundation office or by visiting www.mahonefund.org. Students may apply the scholarship award towards tuition, room and board, books, and other fees related to their education. Application must be returned by Friday, March 23, 2012.
The mission of the Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund is to provide opportunities for economically and/or academically deserving youth and to support Breast and Cervical cancer initiatives for women. To date, we have awarded 137 scholarships and also provided financial support for 250 women for Breast and Cervical cancer treatment.
